Australiens geostrategische Rolle als aufstrebende Mittelmacht im Indo-Pazifik

  • Max Dietrich (Autor/in)

Abstract

The Indo-Pacific is a young geopolitical concept that views the West-Pacific and the Indian Ocean as an important strategic region. Being westerly in its identity and Asian in its geography, Australia finds itself in the middle of this global upheaval. This creates new possibilities for regional influence, as well as challenges that demand responsible solutions. Australia is successfully working in two directions, with the USA as its most important political partner and with China as its most important economic partner. But this strategy could cause a long-term dilemma. In the event of a conflict between Beijing and Washington, Canberra will likely be forced to align with one of the world powers.
