Abstract

In our opinion, teachers qualified to teach Chinese as a foreign language should be familiar with Chinese language and literature and well-informed about Chinese history and culture. In addition to their ability to speak clearly and fluently, they are expected to know at least a foreign language and acquaint themselves with history and culture of their students´ nations. Besides, if they wish to do their job better, they´d have to try their best to really know what´s what about teaching Chinese to foreign students.

Teachers whose professional knowledge doesn´t prove adequate to such a job are required to make up their inadequacy by taking specific refresher courses. To improve their teaching skill, teachers at different levels are offered opportunities such as a) a release from work for advanced studies at other institutes, b) attendance at certain short-time courses, c) going on observation tours. Besides, the following measures have been taken on a regular basis. 1) every senior teacher is assigned to guide a junior one´s study and work, 2) all teachers are encouraged to attend each other´s class ans exchange experience, 3) discussions on teaching methods are organized, 4) inspection tours to other institutions are arranged in time.

To meet the needs of further development of teaching Chinese to foreign students, postgraduates majoring in this subject will be enrolled and specially trained next academic year.
