Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • You have read the author guidelines
  • You have read the copyright notice below and agree to it
  • You are submitting your original work and have the rights to the work
  • Your submission is preceded by an abstract, keywords and contact information of the author(s)
  • You provide the film, audio and/or pictures in highest possible resolution
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the author guidelines

Author Guidelines

Dastavezi welcomes films, essays, and photo essays on South Asia-related topics.

Authors/producers will submit their audio-visual materials together with a written text. The journal seeks contributions that situate the audio-visual materials through historical, reflexive methodological, and/or theoretical expositions.

Films may have a wide range of formats and lengths (up to 120 min). The corresponding essays (around 3000 words) can describe the production, shooting, and wrting process, or deal with conceptualization, theorization, and interpretation of the audio-visual submission. Photo essay should have around 5000 words including photos and captions, with the focus on photography as a research practice. Further audio-visual modes of knowledge production can be presented and discussed with the editorial team.

Similar to the submitted text, contributors should be willing to re-edit their audio-visual materials to fit the journal’s standard. An international editorial board will ensure the quality of the contributions. Accepted contributions will be available to the public on an open-access platform provided by Heidelberg University. Materials published in Dastavezi will be supplied with a DOI number and can be searched and quoted in other academic environments.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

1. Authors retain copyright and confer to the journal the right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in Dastavezi.

2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g. publish it on an institutional repository or as an essay in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in Dastavezi.
