Abstract

In this paper, I will try to disentangle the origins of the interpretation of dreams by the ancient Indians and Greeks. I will try to reconstruct, in comparative fashion, the development about dreams from the first beginnings in the Ṛgveda and in Homeric beliefs to the oldest extant treatises on dreams and to the interpretation of dreams as a means for philosophical cognition in the early Upaniṣads.
