Mit Max gegen Marx? Zum Beginn einer Weber-Rezeption in der VR China

Abstract

Max Weber, who used to be rejected as an "opponent of Marxism", has now been rediscovered in the People's Republic of China. Two factors account for the growing interest in Weber’s work: the search for a theory of modernization and the new ambition to reach international level in the social sciences. Articles in bis newspapers like "Guangming Ribao" are introducing Weber to the Chinese reader. Sociologists as well as historians are attracted by Weber's theories, and stu- dents are already discussing a slogan "Yi Ma fan Ma" - with Max (Weber) against Marx.
