Abstract

The participation of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations led to political science centered analysis of her policies and behaviours in that new environment. In this article - using a more international law related approach - it is attempted to demonstrate Chinese attitudes towards the solution of world-wide problems, such as discussed at the 1972 and 1974 UN-conferences at Stockholm human environment), Bukarest (world population), and Rome(food). What is the way the Chinese articulate the problems involved? How close are their suggested solutions to the understanding of Western international lawyers who focus on some kind of institutionalized international cooperation? It is shown that the Chinese adhere as strong to the principle of state sovereignty as they did when they were not admitted to the UN.
