Abstract
Based on the historical role of the world famous Dutch islamologist Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje as a counter-insurgency advisor to the Dutch colonial government during the long drawn Atjeh war (1873—1908), Prof. Wertheim makes the proposition, that present day social scientists, engaged in so called Third World research, should not be guided by the same ethics in social science research as those prevailing in the colonial era. Rather than serving his government blindly, the social scientist should be primarely motivated by the idea of solidarity with suppressed peoples all over the world.Statistics
