Abstract
This report gives detailed information on the print media, radio, television and the Internet in Burma. Although this article also deals with various subtle and most open and brutal forms of censorship, its main focus lies on the analysis of communication structures from a political and economic perspective. According to the author there are three mass media power groups in Burma: The state and military complex, which is by far the most important one, the Chinese community and, interestingly enough, the drug barons, who are active in the publication of journals and magazines. The author compares the programmes of the state and military TV channels. While the state TV programme is rather boring, conservative and state oriented, the military channel has much more advertising, more entertainment and is more Western oriented.Statistics
