View No. 170/171 (2024): New challenges for Asian Studies

The new issue of ASIEN 170/171 (January/April 2024) is dedicated to the current challenges facing Asian studies today. Edited by Carmen Brandt and Wiegand Körber, the articles address topics such as the precariousness of so-called ‘minor subjects,’ the future of regional studies programmes, the tensions surrounding Chinese studies in Germany, and the conditions for the next generation of Southeast Asian researchers.

Insights into Mongolian studies, Japanese studies and Indian studies in Israel also highlight the diversity of the subject landscape – and how closely scientific expertise, institutional frameworks and social challenges are interlinked.

With essays, research articles and research notes, the special issue offers a multifaceted panorama of current debates.
