Abstract
Early in November 1983 Chancellor Helmut Kohl visited Japan, Indonesia and India. The Chancellor's visit translated his policy statement of 4 May 1983 into practical politics and constituted a visible manifestation of the Federal Government's interest in the countries of Asia, where one out of every two people on this planet is born. The trip also underscored the high priority which Asia is accorded in German foreign policy and which meets with widespread support among the German public.
