A Concept For National Unity In Malaysia

Caused by the Bumiputra policy, the basis was laid for growing symbolic racism, and because of the maintaining ethnic segregation ethnic prejudices and aversive racism could creep into society. Since the late 1970s there is a tendency towards inter-ethnic income equality and the eradication of poverty. Accordingly to W.I. Thomas a whole lot of programs were set up trying to achieve an inter-ethnic social environment to overcome ethnic prejudices. But because a well-balanced share of power between all ethnic groups was denied ethnic affiliation still remains. Thus efforts given towards a structural change have to be reinforced.
