Abstract

First this article gives a brief outline of recent trends together with some comment on general changes in geography. Then it describes how China ist dealt with in an 8th form of a North Rhine-Westphalian grammar school with a French-German bilingual branch. After having a brainstorming session and giving a first introducing summary, the teacher deals intensively with the subjects “natural environment”, “farming”, “demographic development”, “China´s division in more or less favored economic areas”, and “some future prospects”. The pupils geography books contain some text units about China, but the method above makes use of the pupils being interested in other peoples lives and follows the recent curriculum as well.
