Profile
Under a new name, Heidelberg University Library is further expanding its successful open access publishing activities with innovative new services. What started as CrossAsia-eBooks / CrossAsia-ePublishing within the FID Asia in 2016 will be continued as Heidelberg Asian Studies Publishing - HASP since the beginning of 2022 within FID4SA - Specialized Information Service South Asia.
HASP supports Open Access as a publishing model for the dissemination and advancement of knowledge and learning. We offer scholars of Asian Studies from all over the world the opportunity to publish their research results electronically, promptly and free of charge, thereby increasing the visibility and impact of their publications. We publish both scholarly monographs, edited volumes and journals according to the Gold Open Access model, i.e. books are accessible immediately, and the Green Open Access model, i.e. the additional open access publication of a published book (self-archiving).
HASP is committed to the following principles:
- The primary form of publication is Open Access online publication in a variety of digital formats (PDF, HTML).
- In addition to the freely accessible digital formats, HASP also offers a print-on-demand book publication. These hardcover or softcover editions can be purchased from bookstores or online booksellers.
- We publish monographs and series with a regional focus on Asia (South Asia, East Asia and Southeast Asia). The content covers the entire spectrum of research in the field of Asian Studies. As a rule, our publication profile does not include conference and congress reports, activity reports or popular scientific publications.
- We accept Ph.D. dissertations if they are rated "Summa cum laude" or "Magna cum laude".
- Adherence to academic standards is the most important criterion for publication in HASP. This should be ensured, for example, by the recommendation of the supervisors in the case of dissertations, or by the series editors in the case of academic series. In individual consultation with the authors, we also carry out a peer review process with external referees.
- Books published by HASP receive a DOI and their own ISBN, making them permanently referenced. Series also receive an ISSN.
At the heart of our current activities in electronic publishing is the development of multimedia publishing. Structured scholarly texts can be combined with images, maps or 3D visualisations ("enhanced eBooks"). This type of publishing is particularly well suited to the needs of scholars whose work is not purely text-based, but whose research relies on multimedia data.
HASP is part of the Specialised Information Service FID4SA and is co-funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of its Specialised Information Service programme. It is administered by Heidelberg University Library.
We use the open source software OMP (Open Monograph Press) by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP).
